08/02/2022 - There were actually some big tournaments this time.
This week we have the biggest, most powerful, and most shocking update to the Pinball Statistics Power Rankings since its creation way back in June 2022. Let’s be honest, the pinball world has been a little sleepy for the past few weeks before we had the double stack of the BPAC 2022 and the YEGPIN results come in. These events have woken up the Pinball Statistics Power rankings from its slumber and given me the chance to post about some great players that I have had the pleasure of learning about in just the past few weeks.

Big Movers in Brisbane
We have 3 Oceanian players who are brand new to the Pinball Statistics Power Rankings this week: Tom Casey, Richard Rhodes, and Mitchell Stewart NZ. I have never seen any of these players play in person or on video, but I can provide 3 quick facts that apply to them as a group:
They are good at pinball.
They played great pinball in Brisbane, some of which you may be able to see on Jimmy Nails YouTube channel.
They do not live in Queensland (I think) which appears to be the pinball capital of Australia.
I’m sorry that I don’t really have anything more to add, but I think it is really cool that the team in Brisbane has put together such a popular series of tournaments in a part of the world that has yet to see an IFPA World Pinball Championship or any other IFPA Major event.
Notable results in Brisbane also came from Steven Bowden who now sits ranked #10 in the world in the IFPA World Pinball Player Rankings, and the unstoppable Escher Lefkoff who now sits as the definitive #1 player in the IFPA World Pinball Player Rankings with his 66.76 point lead over Raymond Davidson.
The Greats of The Great White North
I had the pleasure of traveling up to large hamlet known as Sherwood Park, Alberta which looks a lot like if Iowa and Texas had a baby that grew up in the climate of Norway. Here within the lovely county-run Millennium Place recreation center, the YEGPIN team put together an incredible 160-player Pinburgh-style match play tournament alongside a massive pinball and arcade show. I had a great time on this trip, and my biggest complaint of the whole thing is that direct flights from O’Hare to YEG have not resumed since the non-essential travel border closure.
But the story of this event was not about my moderate success, it was about John Kottmann who finished:
2nd/160 in the YEGPIN Match Play Championships
T-5th/112 in the 2022 YEGPIN Knockout Cancer Pinball Tournament
13th/84 in the YEGPIN Pro Pinball Championships
Notable results additionally came from the Bob Matthews (the legend), Keri Wing, Luke Nahorniak, and Jack Tadman.
